Windows 8 info

There have been many rumors about Microsoft's next version of windows and for now we shall just codename it windows 8, there are lots of amazing pictures of windows 8 on the internet created by people with amazing ideas of what windows 8 will look like

Here are some the the new features expected in windows 8

1. Will run on ARM architecture instead of Intel's processors
2. That there will be a built in ISO editor which will be helpful if you ever need to edit ISO files burning them
3.That it will be a 128 bit operating system which means that it should switch between running applications effortlessly and instantly
4. It should have built in facial recognition software, this will completely change the way we log into our computers and since every laptop these days comes with a built in webcam, it shouldn't be a problem unlike if you were using a fingerprint reader which at the moment only seems to be built into the premium computers, If you would like to Have facial Recognition software on your computer(Login using your webcam instead of typing in your password then look at this link (www.keylemon.com) This runs on windows XP, Vista and 7.
5. It should have a completely new interface
6. It should have an app store like on Mac OS X

LEAKED WINDOWS 8 SCREENSHOT REVEALS FIRST WINDOWS UPDATE CHANGES

Just a quick post here; and before we receive a wave of hate comments, please don’t forget Windows 8 Milestone 2 is still to be finalized. It is very likely that we will not see any aesthetic changes until Milestone 3, as we had seen in history with Windows 7.
That being said, it was the small changes in Windows 7 that mattered most, and we are starting to see the same kind of philosophy being incorporated into Windows 8 design.
The first notable change is the Restart if required box, which will hopefully reduce the likelihood of seeing the “Please restart for Windows Update to complete” warnings.
The second change is the “up one folder” button beside the back and forward buttons. It is interesting that this button is being added, since clicking on a specific directory on the address bar serves the same, if not even greater functionality.
As with all leaked screenshots, we will place them on our Windows 8 Screenshots page. Or you can also visit our Windows 8 Screenshots tags page to visit each individual post and our reports.

RUMOR: WINDOWS 8 MOSH UI TO HAVE “WINDOWS PHONE 7″-LIKE LIVE TILES

Seems like the Windows 8 rumors are starting to roll in.PhoneArena claims it has found some clues that indicate what we”ll see in Windows 8.
Windows 8 is slated to fulfill Microsoft’s vision of “three screens and a cloud”, and will rely heavily on cloud services. There is to be dual-interface overlay, depending on what is Win 8 running on, and the tablet UI, codenamed Mosh, is speculated to feature big live tiles, similar to what Windows Phone 7 offers.
In addition, it was also mentioned that Windows 8 may have a dedicated gaming focus, feature a flexible 3D interface, as well as take advantage of a Windows Marketplace app store. We have previously witnessed strong indication of gaming being a key component of Windows 8 straight from the Founder of Voodoo PC, who is now working for Microsoft as GM For System Experience in the Interactive Entertainment Group.
This is also further indication that we will see separate releases of Windows 8.
As with our other rumors, we have added this to our Windows 8 Rumor Center, as we continue to provide updates on the status of these rumors.

WINDOWS 8 ROADMAP: DEVELOPMENT IS ON TIME, MILESTONE 3 STARTING NEXT WEEK

Windows 8 M2/M3 Roadmap leaked by Mary Jo-Foley
According to a recent roadmap leaked to Mary-Jo Foley in early 2011, Windows 8 development appears to be on-time. The date for Milestone 2′s “Final Build Candidate” matches the one in the most recent build string: 6.2.7947.0.winmain_win8m2_escrow.110218-1608
Furthermore, this roadmap once again confirms that the previous rumor was true: Windows 8 Milestone 3 coding will begin starting February 28th, 2011. It is surprising how close this roadmap is to the leaked dates we have been hearing in the scene.

What does this mean for future dates (or leaks?)

If Milestone 3 also takes five months as Milestone 2 did, this could mean we could see a beta ready in time for PDC 2011 sometime in September 2011. Historically, Windows 7 Milestone 3 was leaked when it was demoed at PDC 2008 as well. In addition:
  • The beta was leaked just under 3 months after Milestone 3′s leak
  • It’s download was publicly made on Microsoft’s website 14 days afterwards
Microsoft has not made any claims on any dates, but historically, they have followed a three-year pattern with releases. At this rate, we could be looking at a mid-2012 RTM.

WINDOWS 8 MILESTONE 2 TO BE FINALIZED

The latest build string – 6.2.7947.0.winmain_win8m2_escrow.110218-1608 – compiled just this past Friday, indicates that Windows 8 Milestone 2 has reached escrow stage. This is significant because it means that the build is ready to be distributed to Microsoft’s closest internal and external partners. Additions and modifications to Milestone 2′s functionality and appearance have halted at this point.
Interestingly enough, these build numbers continue to come leaked from Zukonka, who has been known to leak these kinds of information as well as the actual builds themselves in the past. Zukonka has also mentioned over at MyDigitalLife that coding for Windows 8 Milestone 3 will begin February 28th. A “General Assembly” date for January 7th, 2013 has also been stated as well. This seems to go hand-in-hand with the recently leaked Dell tablet timeline.
However, with the possibility of an earlier ARM release, it is still too early to put full confidence into such an early release date.
Windows 8 Center will continue to report on any rumors or facts as they come in.

WINDOWS 8 DELL TABLET SLATED FOR EARLY 2012

Leaked Dell tablet roadmap indicates Windows 8 tablet coming Q1 2012
Dell’s tablet roadmap for 2011-2012 has been leaked onto the web, with one very interesting indication – the company has plans to launch a tablet running Windows 8 in Q1 of 2012.
The tablet, codenamed Peju, is slotted in a three-month time frame from January to March 2012 in this chart. No indication was given by AndroidCentral, as to what this really means. However, we can draw some likely conclusions based on history and facts:
1) CES is held every January Which means that we can most likely expect the beginning of the slotted time to go towards announcement of the tablet and its demonstration at CES 2012.
2) Possible Q1 release for the tablet? – The Streak 7 Android OS was announced on January 7th, 2011, the second day of CES. It was then released on February 2nd in the United States. Given that the time-frames for Peju and Streak 7 are very similar, it is likely that a release could occur soon after the initial announcement.
3) Microsoft had stated earlier that its next operating system would run on ARM processors – This could mean that there is some possibility we could see an early release for Windows 8 running on the ARM architecture, as opposed to its desktop equivalent. ARM processors power a large number of tablets and smartphones today.
Keep in mind that current Windows 8 development has reached the Milestone 2 phase as of recently. Along with this roadmap that was also leaked a year and a half ago, the possibility of a 2012 Windows 8 release date continues to grow stronger.
When do you think Windows 8 will launch? Let us know in the comments.

WINDOWS 8 BUILD 7926 SETUP.EXE SCREENSHOT LEAKS

Although we haven’t heard much of Windows 8 as of lately, we can be quite sure that Microsoft is hard at work. According to Neowin, the notorious leaker under the alias of “Zuko” has leaked a screenshot of the latest build string, and a screenshot of the setup.exe. This “Zuko” could possibly be the same “Zukonka” who leaked numerous Windows 7 builds in the past. “Zuko” has also been known for leaking some of these builds after teasing with a screenshot, although it is unlikely we will see a leak here with such an early build.

GAMING TO BE A “KEY COMPONENT” OF WINDOWS 8 DEVELOPMENT

According to a source that has tipped off Techradar, Microsoft plans to use Windows 8 as an opportunity to “relaunch PC gaming.” Recently hired Rahul Sood, who had founded luxury computer manfacturer Vodoo PC, was quoted saying that
“Windows 8 will represent a real new push into PC gaming, … Gaming will be a key component for the whole OS.
The company has induced some efforts such as the Games for Windows Marketplace in attempts to fuel PC gaming and take more control of the industry, which seems to be dominated by the ever-increasing library of Valve’s Steam.
These efforts haven’t necessarily caused a revolution per se, but it looks like Microsoft is hoping Windows 8 will change all this.

WINDOWS 8 TO BE 128-BIT COMPATIBLE?

windows8
As we’ve known for some time, Microsoft had already begun work on Windows 8 before Windows 7 was completed. The reason being that different teams work on different aspects of the operating system, which is why Microsoft was able to do this. Microsoft previously shed some light on what we can see in Windows 8 through a job description.
It appears though, that one specific Microsoft employee was not too careful with their LinkedIn profile, and had accidentally leaked some interesting details regarding Windows 8. According to his LinkedIn profile, which seems to have had many of its details removed, Robert Murdon has been working at Microsoft since January 2002.Windows 8 News managed to catch this on the Microsoft employee’s LinkedIn profile before it disappeared:
“Robert Morgan is working to get IA-128 working backwards with full binary compatibility on the existing IA-64 instructions in the hardware simulation to work for Windows 8 and definitely Windows 9.”
“Robert Morgan is using Hestia (custom software package) for experimenting with the processor for scientific analysis and 3D graphics. Error: Memory Latency? Always gotta be a challenge barrier, it’s gotta be a bug in Hestia. right?!”
“Robert Morgan is frustrated with process standards and regulations! Delays Delays!”
Murdon seems certain that we will see 128-bit compatibility with Windows 9, while it appears that whether we will see it in Windows 8 or not is still uncertain. Coincidentally, many do believe that Windows 7 will be Microsoft’s last 32-bit OS. So could this mean we will see Windows 8 come in 64-bit and 128-bit flavors? Let us know what you think in the comments.

ROADMAP REVEALS POSSIBLE WINDOWS 8 LAUNCH DATE

A roadmap slide from an Italian Windows Server presentation spotted by UXEvangelist shows that the next major Windows Server release for Microsoft is set for 2012, which is approximately three years from the release of Windows 7.
windows8roadmapAlthough the roadmap is titled Windows Server release, it is still appropriate for our guessing purposes :)
Windows Server 2008 was a major release and took place in 2008, which is four years before 2012. The next major release for a client operating system will occur one year after. In which case, Microsoft is expecting to release Windows 8 some time in 2013.
Note the ~ (tilda) which means approximate. As we have seen with the development of Windows 7, Microsoft did not mention anything specific regarding release dates until RTM was very near. Original estimates of Windows 7 RTMing in April and October were also off from the July 22 date.
The current poll we have running on the sidebar shows most of our visitors think Q4 2011 will be the Windows 8 release date. What do you think now? Let us know in the comments.
Note: Although Code Name “Windows 8″ may suggest that Windows 8 will not be the final name, “Windows 7″ was also a Code Name before it was declared the official name of the operating system.

WINDOWS 8 USER-DESIGNED CONCEPT VIDEO – AMAZING OR FAIL?

Dubbed the Copenhagen user experience, the following video is supposed to be a concept for a future generation of Windows – namely Windows 8. I was a bit surprised to see many Windows 7 concepts included so I contacted the creator, who confirmed that some concepts were adapted straight from Windows 7. The concept seems to be one year in the making.
Copenhagen shatters the composite prototypical event patterns people have developed for their OS, Windows.
Copenhagen is a User Experience concept that I designed. It is unique in the fact that it manages to bring together classic design, contemporary design, usability, and art.
There are also some similar Bumptop characteristics in the video. The scraps idea really caught my interest but the portable start menu and taskbar seemed too prone to accidental clicking.
Looks decent on video but will it work in practice? Let us know in the comments.

1: ARM support

The one firm detail that Microsoft has released is that Windows 8 will support the ARM architecture. ARM processors are common in various consumer electronics devices, and it seems clear that Microsoft is positioning itself to allow Windows 8 to run on PCs, tablets, and cell phones.

2: Separation from the server

Before the days of Windows XP, Windows Server and the Windows desktop clients were two completely different operating systems. In recent years, Microsoft has tried to cut development costs by designing its desktop and server operating systems to use the same kernel. Even so, I think we may see Microsoft make a departure from the strategy. In my opinion, Windows client operating systems (especially with the newly announced ARM support) are simply becoming too different from Windows Server operating systems. I think Microsoft will eventually have no choice but to resume completely separate development cycles. Whether this happens in the Windows 8 timeframe remains to be seen, though.

3: OS on a diet

For as long as I can remember, people have complained that Windows is an overly bloated operating system. Since Microsoft is going to design Windows 8 to run equally well on PCs and devices with ARM processors, I think that it will have no choice but to trim down the operating system.
Consumers have been driven to adopt tablets and other mobile devices because of their speed, simplicity, and the fact that they boot instantly. Windows 7 is far too bloated to meet any of these expectations. Therefore, if Microsoft wants to use Windows 8 on mobile devices, it will have to get rid of many of the things that make Windows 7 so bloated and inefficient.

4: Goodbye to 32-bit support

Even though there are rumors to the contrary, I expect Microsoft to do away with 32-bit support in Windows 8. Every PC that has been manufactured in the last several years includes a 64-bit processor. There is absolutely no reason why a brand-new operating system needs to continue to support legacy 32-bit hardware.
Whether Windows 8 will support 32-bit applications remains to be seen. In the previous item, I mentioned that Microsoft needs to design Windows 8 to make it less bloated and more efficient. One of the easiest ways Microsoft could do this would be to design the kernel so that it runs only 64-bit applications. However, there are still so many 32-bit applications in use, I think Microsoft will continue to provide support for those applications, even if it’s not in a traditional way.

5: Virtual plug-ins

Believe it or not, I think that Windows 7 was actually a model for Windows 8 in some ways. As you will recall, Microsoft offers something called Windows XP mode in some editions of Windows 7. With Windows XP mode, Windows XP runs as a virtual machine, but in a rather unique way. Users can either use the Windows XP desktop or they can run applications transparently through the Windows 7 desktop, even though those applications are actually running on Windows XP.
I think that Microsoft may bring the same model to Windows 8. Rather than provide backward compatibility to legacy operating systems within the Windows a kernel, Microsoft may create virtual instances of legacy operating systems (including 32-bit operating systems) that function as plug-ins to Windows 8. This would be an ideal solution because this approach would help keep the Windows 8 kernel small and efficient, while still providing a means of achieving backward compatibility for those who need it.

6: Heavy reliance on the cloud

This past summer at TechEd in New Orleans, Microsoft placed extremely heavy emphasis on cloud computing. I don’t expect Microsoft to completely abandon its cloud focus just because it has a new desktop operating system on the horizon. Instead, I look for Windows 8 to include heavy cloud integration. For example, I think that Windows 8 will probably provide the ability to make cloud applications appear to users as if they are installed and running locally.

7: Native support for virtualized apps

I think we can expect Windows 8 to offer native support for virtualized applications. Among these applications, I think Windows 8 will be designed to run Internet Explorer in a sandbox. This would help put an end to all the security issues that Microsoft has previously had with the browser, because virtualizing and sandboxing Internet Explorer would prevent malicious Web sites from infecting the core operating system. It may even be possible to reset Internet Explorer to a pristine state after each use.

8: A bigger distinction between consumer and enterprise versions

Ever since Windows XP, Microsoft has offered different editions of its desktop operating systems with at least one version geared toward consumers and another toward businesses. I think that in Windows 8, we will see a greater distinction between the consumer and enterprise editions than ever before.
If my prediction about the core operating system being small and efficient holds true, I think that Microsoft will market the lightweight OS to businesses as being more secure than previous versions of Windows because of its smaller footprint. At the same time, though, I doubt that Microsoft will be able to resist the temptation to load up the consumer version with unnecessary software, such as software to provide native support for Zune.

9: Using hardware to drive sales

One thing that was abundantly clear from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year is that the PC is in real trouble. Consumers have begun to shy away from purchasing desktops and laptops in favor of purchasing tablet devices. As a result, I look for Microsoft to use native operating system support for specialized hardware to try to woo customers back to the PC. For example, I think we will see an adaptation of Microsoft Kinect for the PC, which will allow interacting with the PC via hand gestures. Just how practical it will be to work with a PC in this manner remains to be seen, but I think it will make a great marketing gimmick.

10: Name change

Even though everyone has been using the name Windows 8, I don’t think that will be the official name of the new operating system. At the moment, Microsoft has a serious image problem. It’s perceived by many as being out of touch and late to the party. While other companies are focusing on tablets and mobile devices, Microsoft is still writing software for the PC. I think that in an effort to lose its dated image, Microsoft may rebrand Windows as something completely different. It might even lose the name Windows.
If you think this sounds farfetched, consider what recently happened with Microsoft Flight Simulator. Flight Simulator has been around for roughly 30 years, which puts its longevity more or less on par with Windows. Even so, Microsoft has announced that the next edition will be called Microsoft Flight. It is rebranding the product to try to change its image in order to attract gamers and not just pilots (or aspiring pilots).

We all know thatCanonical and Microsoftare going to launch there products in few months , So i thought of writing a post about new products Windows 8 and Ubuntu 10.04

About Windows 8 :

It's no surprise that Microsoft has been working on Windows 8 for a while, moving from general planning to more in-depth discussions in the spring; earlier this month the Windows team finalized the key scenarios.
That's not down  to dissatisfaction with Windows 7; Microsoft always starts planning the next version as soon as it's clear what's going to make it into the versioWindows8_thumb[4]n under development.

At this stage there isn't any official information and there won't be for a year or more. But there are some things we do know.
1. Windows 8 release date is late 2011 or early 2012
That's 2-3 years after Windows 7; leaving aside the aberration of Vista, that's the typical time between Windows releases and it matches up with the 2012 dates mentioned on leaked Windows Server timelines.
While Windows President Steven Sinofsky says he doesn't want to "underpromise and over-deliver" for Windows, it's likely that Microsoft will announce the later date and ship on the earlier one.
2. Hibernate and resume will have a new engine
According to the profile of an intern on the Windows team, there's going to be a new Hibernate/Resume Integration API using what he calls "the new TLZ file compression engine". That could mean even faster hibernation and resume times – if it makes it into the final code.
3. Windows 8 will have new networking and security features
Another intern reports working on "new networking features"; that tells us about as much as the profile of the Software Security Engineer who's working on "Windows 8 security".
Changes in network security, authentication and encryption detailed in a Software Design Engineer's profile are again probably related to Windows Server. Another online resume mentions a possible "follow-on" to the PatchGuard system that stops viruses changing system files that was delayed from Windows 7.
4. Windows 8 will have better multimonitor support
Steven Sinofsky has already said there wasn't time to do more work on the user interface with multiple monitors but that it's on the list for Windows 8, not least because "we all use it at Microsoft". Expect scenarios for handling three or more screens, in various arrangements.
5. Steven Sinofsky is in charge of it
This is both good – he was responsible for getting Windows 7 out on time and working well – and potentially very bad. Sinofsky's expertise is execution rather than vision and for Windows 8 that could mean a pedestrian set of improvements rather than anything potentially game changing.
Windows 7 is more than Vista done right, but it is an excellent execution of the Vista architecture changes. With Windows 7 to compete against, Windows 8 will need to be a lot more exciting than that.

About Ubuntu 10.04 :

It’s almost that time again – time to start chatting up the next release coming out of the Ubuntu-verse. I know, I know…it seems the tires of 9.10 were just kicked. They were. Ubuntu 9.10 was well received, but now something bigger and better is coming around the corner. But what should be expected of Ubuntu? How can they one-up themselves, after the hat-trick they pulled with 9.10? Well, I have taken a peek under the hood of Lucid Lynx and I really liked what I saw.
As you may know, Ubuntu has a very regular release schedule. Some say this prolific schedule gets in the way of users growing accustomed to the distribution. The minute a release gains a modicum of familiarity, Ubuntu releases another, better version. On the other hand, Ubuntu offers what is called a Long Term Support version. LTS releases happen every two years and enjoys support for 3 years. So instead of jumping on every release, you can upgrade only when an LTS release comes out. Ubuntu 10.04 is an LTS release (due out in April 2010), so users could hop onto this release and ride it until 12.04 is released. But what will 10.04 bring to the table? Let’s find out.
1.New look
Figure 1
Figure 1
Even though GNOME 3 will not be released in time for 10.04, Lucid Lynx will be getting a major face lift. The Ayatana Team of Ubuntu developers are working on an enhanced version of GTK+ that will include RGBA support. What does this mean? You know that sleek Aero interface thatWindowsVista and 7 used by default? A Linux take on that theme will be enabled, out of the box, for 10.04. If you are more visual, then take a look at Figure 1 for a reference. Upon first glance I would immediately say that theme could be taken care of with the help of a few Compiz and Emerald tweaks. It can. But this is out of the box goodness. This is not preferences hacking, this is out of the box, global transparency for all applications.  And this is transparency on the widget level – not border and window level.
2.Speed
Benchmarkings are out of the question as 10.04 is very much alpha. But word from Canonical is that coveted 10 second boot time just make make it to fruition. What they are doing differently this time is targeting a mid-range machine to reach the 10 second time. This will mean some machines will boot fast and some slower. The targeted machine: A Dell Mini 9 netbook. If they can get a netbook to boot in 10 seconds, imagine how fast your quad core will boot!
Also along the lines of speed improvements is installation time. Ubuntu 10.04 will install (under the hood) a bit differently than previous versions. In earlier versions the install required downloads to occur first. Now downloads and installation will happen in parallels so to greatly shorting the installation time.
3.Startup/Shutdown
One nice feature that was planned for 9.10 (but didn’t make it) is the ability to install updates at shutdown. Another nice feature proposal is a graphical OS selector for multi-boot machines. Instead of a text-based selection menu, you will have a GUI for the selection of your os too boot.
4.Ubuntu Software Center
When 10.04 releases, the Ubuntu Software Center will finally take over as the sole installation tool for Ubuntu. Synaptic, GDebi, and even the updatemanager will all be replaced by USC. Hopefully USC will include the ability to install more than one piece of software at a time.
5.Final thoughts
So far that’s all that has been released for 10.04. But you can rest easily knowing that 10.04 will have to endure its 100 Papercuts before it reaches the public (it will go through 10 rounds of “healing”). I hope you are as excited about 10.04 as I am. I believe this could be the Ubuntu release that the public would have a hard time turning down as its desktop OS. Not only will it have a very solid foundation, the overlaying structure will be much more modern looking.
